gecko:03282009 In an
attemp to save money and limit my trips to the pet store (and because
last year there were sooooo many feeder insect shortages I wanted to
screem) I am going to be trying to breed my own gecko food. These foods
include chrickets and mealworms. I have a plastic storage bin set up
for the chrickets with an egg laying dish, pre-made chricket food from
the pet store, a water crystal dish, egg crates, paper rolls, and fresh
veggies and fruits. My little chirpers are only just getting to the
point were they will wan to lay eggs so Im going to keep my fingures
crossed. The other bugs, the meal worms, are progressing nicly. I have
a 2gal tank set up with a mix of the bedding the meal worms came in and
non-instant oat meal. The larva are starting to pupate and some are
beginning to look like beetles!! As you can see in the photos the
adult and baby leopard geckos are doing great. I think I'm totaly in
love with Spore, he is by far one of the sweetest babies I have. IF he
is indeed a male I think Im going to breed him with Kai-they both have
such awsome temperments I think the resulting offspring would have
great natures and make wonderful pets. I have 3 eggs from Saya and
Tacume in the incubator right now, all were laid this month so she has
been super hungry. I have been amusing myself by hand feeding her
chrickets. Now when I say hand feeding i mean by using a pair of
chricket grabbers, they say leos don't bite but I learned the hard way
that they can draw blood when Tac accidently missed my fingures holding
his meal worm and he got my hand instead, Tac felt really bad about
that and refused to even take food from the grabbers for a while after
that. I took weights on all the geckos yesterday and all the
babies have doubled in weight but Geekers, who is the oldest baby and
only put on a few grams. I'm starting to make plans as to which os
Totsky and Tac's babies I want to keep for breeders or pets. I think I
have decided that Tempest will not be kept and Im still debating
between False Gold and Geekers. Geekers was the first egg I had to
hatch so she has sentamental value and if I don't keep her I will most
likly give her to Dana, my best friend who got me started in all this
when she had to move and gave me Geekers mother, Totsky. For what I
want to do genetic wise, False Gold is the best out of the 3 to be kept
for breeding. I really want to work on tremper albinos, tangerines and
similar color morphs. Spore is het tremper albino and in addition to
plans on breeding him to Kai (who is also het tremper albino) I want to
breed him with one of Totsky and Tacumes babies; and assuming all 3
eggs hatch from Saya/Tacume-with one or more of them to. Ah so many
plans for next season!
